Kelis Whisenhunt, MA, NCC, LPC Candidate

Kelis began her career in the addictions field as a BHRS and Certified Case Manager in 2006 at Valliant House, a residential setting for adult women. Kelis began providing outpatient services to men and women for McCurtain County Drug Court in 2007. In 2010 she became a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, returning to graduate school in 2012 to pursue her master’sdegree. Her educational achievements include induction to Chi Sigma Iota Epsilon Chapter in 2013, awarded the Who’s Who Among Collegiate Students Honor in 2014 and receiving the Wayne Dixon Honorary Workshop Award in 2015. She graduated with her MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, became a National Certified Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate in 2016.

While Kelis attributes her passion for counseling to personal life experiences with addiction and trauma, she recognizes that her educational achievements, over a decade of experience and continuing educational training has contributed greatly to her professional development and counseling expertise in the field. She adheres to the CBT approach with a trauma focus as foundation to, and the treatment of, addictions and co-occurring issues.

Raised on a ranch in southeast Oklahoma, Ms. Whisenhunt states she feels at home at Clay Crossing and is excited to be incorporating the values instilled on a working ranch, along with counseling, in order to facilitate the growth and healing of her clients. She appreciates the serene environment and the peace that the ranch provides, in order to unveil the opportunities that sobriety offers to her clients to regain what addiction has taken from them.
